  • Tips and Tricks:

    • Ways to Share Books With a Child

Paired Reading - Read the story aloud at the same time.

Shared Reading - Read to your child, allowing him/her to "chime in" on the repetitive parts.

Alternate Reading - You read a page, your child reads a page.

Echo Reading - You read a line or sentence. Then, your child reads the same line or sentence.

Jump-Start Reading - For an older child, read aloud the first few chapters of a book to get him/her started.

Read and Share - Allow an older child to read a portion of the book silently. Then ask him/her to share a favorite part by reading it again.  Talk about the book.
