Curriculum Information for Parents

English Language Arts (Reading and Writing):
  • Ready PA Core- This is the regular educational reading curriculum. Students are included in the classroom for whole group instruction based on their IEPs. https://www.curriculumassociates.com/products/ready 
  • Read Naturally- This is a supplemental fluency program used in the Learning Support Program to help your child become a more fluent reader. https://www.readnaturally.com/
  • Sonday System- This is a phonics program that offers structured, systematic, multisensory reading intervention for beginning readers through elementary school. Each lesson plan uses evidence-based methods from Orton-Gillingham's studies to provide effective intervention for small group settings.  https://www.winsorlearning.com/sonday-system-1 
  • Reading A-->Z This is an online program that the district funds to help teach students reading skills, comprehension, and vocabulary at the student's individual level. Reading materials are provided at the student's instructional level. 
  • Spelling- Words are taken from Fundations (2nd and 3rd Grade) or Megawords (4th and 5th Grade) if they have reduced lists outlined in their IEPs. Words are taken from Sonday System if students have an alternate list based on their IEP. 
  • Writing- Students are included for writing assignments in the regular ed. classroom. Support and modifications are provided by Learning Support teachers and paraprofessionals during writing. Writing is graded according to the district-provided rubric. There are 3 main writing pieces a year, one per trimester (Narrative, Opinion, and Informational).

  • Connecting Math Concepts- is a supplemental, or replacement, learning support program using evidence-based practices. This program highlights the main concepts, or big ideas in math for each grade level.   • Instruction can be provided in the regular ed. classroom with paraprofessional support, or there might be direct instruction provided in the learning support classroom.  
  • Xtra Math- This is an app that helps students practice math facts. Every student has a login and pin that is provided at the beginning of the school year.  https://xtramath.org/#/signin/classroom2?c=ESQY8D93
  • Prodigy- This is a fun math game for students. It is designed like a video game and really motivates students to practice math applications. Even those students who do not particularly like math have loved Prodigy. Each student is given a login at the beginning of the school year.
